The term Excelsior is a Latin word meaning “ever upward” or “still higher.” Stan Lee initially began using his catchphrase ‘Excelsior’ in 1960 as a sign off for his works. Stan realized how important this phrase would become to him and to his fans in the future. Stan Lee is considered to be America’s greatest comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer. Stan rose through the ranks of a family-run business to become Marvel Comics primary creative leader for two decades. Stan, beloved by his millions of fans, passed away on November 12, 2018.

- the signature was done in gold marker and has been professionally authenticated by JSA with hologram sticker affixed to the piece; an accompanying JSA certification card is attached to the back; this signed piece has been professionally matted and framed underneath protective plexiglass; there is a metal wire on the back for mounting purposes.
