Item Details
A 1930 letter, envelope, and silver gelatin photograph signed by Benjamin Nathan Cardozo (1870 – 1938). The letter is a request from Cardozo, then Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, to New York attorney Edgar M. Leventritt for case documents from the House of Lords concerning a case currently in his court. In 1932, less than two years later, Cardozo would be nominated to the Supreme Court by President Herbert Hoover. The photograph was taken by noted New York photographer Ian Pirie MacDonald (1867 – 1942). The backing of the photograph is autographed and dedicated to the backing to the lower left.
