An accomplished and prominent artist during the 20th century, Friedlaender is best known for his abstract and non-objective aquatints and etchings. He was born in modern-day Prussian Silesia in 1912. He attended the Academy of Arts in Breslau and began exhibiting within a few years of graduating. During 1937, Friedlaender immigrated to Paris as a political refugee from the Nazi regime. A recipient of many art and teaching awards, he has exhibited in multiple countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Netherlands and the United States.

- slight discoloration to the paper; warp to mat to the upper center; scratches and finish loss throughout the frame; chips to the corners.
