Additional Information The first stone china was produced by John and William Turner in 1800. The formula had much to recommend it, durability and cost. The grayish cast made it perfect for decoration with Chinoiseries as it mimicked Chinese porcelain. Spode wisely transfer printed most of the patterns and hand enameled the outlines, thus reducing costs and opening the market to more than just the upper classes.
