Additional Information | The deed was recorded by James M. Trotter, Recorder of Deeds, in the District of Columbia on December 19th, 1887. Trotter was a former member of the Massachusetts 55th Regiment, the first African American troop in the Civil War. Later in his career, Trotter became the second African American to become the Recorder of Deeds, the highest rank in the federal government preceded by Frederick Douglass. |
