This first edition, first printing features the original dust jacket without the Caldecott award sticker to the front cover. The interior front flap features three paragraphs about the book, the price of $3.50 to the top edge, the printed codes ‘40-80’ and ‘1163’ to the bottom left and the clipped right corner as published. The title page states the Library of Congress number 63-21253. The back interior flap has three paragraphs about Maurcie Sendak with no mention of the Caldecott Award. This volume is housed in a custom clamshell box with gilt lettering.
