Marianna Von Allesch, formerly Maria Anna Steudel, was born in Germany in 1886. After her divorce in 1928, Von Allesch moved to New York and began her career as a designer. Starting her trade with textiles, Von Allesch also worked in asymmetrical glass and ceramics with her large-scale ceramic wall reliefs being a focal point of her style. A majority of her pieces came from commissions and she was notably asked to produce lamps for the lobby and 400 rooms of the Americana Hotel designed by architect, Morris Lapidus. She eventually became the glass designer for Kensington Crystal Co. and designed a furniture line for Pulaski Modern Furniture. Her work has been shown in exhibitions and museums in Europe and the USA
