Born Moses Solomon Philipp in New York City, Robert Philipp received his formal art training at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design. He is known for his leisurely genre scenes emphasized with bright hues, many of which feature his wife, Rochelle Post, as the model. His work has been collected by various renowned art institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, among many others.

Condition

- areas of overpainting to shadow of arm to the right, center of dress, and throughout background particularly along left side; painting examined under black light; abrasions and frame rub to the edges; canvas too small and somewhat loose in frame with gaps visible along the sight edges; dents to the frame to the upper right and to lower right; scratches and accretions throughout edges of frame.
