Frank Cohen Kirk was a Jewish artist born in Zhitomir, Russia (now part of the Ukraine). In the midst of the political unrest, he and his family immigrated to the United States where Kirk attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later earned a scholarship to study in Europe. His work is in numerous private collections and museums including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Museum of Western Art in Moscow, and the Philadelphia Art Museum.

Condition

- darkening to varnish; buckling and slight warping to canvas notably along upper edge; painting examined under black light; minor abrasions and paint loss to sight edges of painting; wiring remnants to frame to the lower right with drilled hole and spring along the outer edge and wires to the verso; cracks to molding at joints; scratches, finish and molding loss, and chips to the frame.
