Doris Rosenthal is known for her depictions of Mexican life and culture. She studied at Los Angeles State Teacher’s College, Columbia University, and the Art Students League with George Bellows and John Sloan. Following school she studied in Europe and taught in New York at Columbia University’s Teachers College and James Monroe High School. She received two Guggenheim Fellowships with which she first traveled to Mexico in 1931, and afterward would make regular trips back to that country. Her work was featured in several exhibitions, art publications, and magazines and can be found into many permanent collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Harvard University Art Museum, Akron Art Museum, and Wichita Art Museum.
