Felix Cole is an artist and musician who studied commercial art at the University of Tulsa, before moving to Detroit where he is the minister of music at a Lutheran church in addition to his artistic endeavors. He is best known for his mural The Black Experience in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a tribute to black history that he began painting in 1974, and revisited several times throughout the next five decades, the final time to add Barack Obama to the mix of historical figures, famous and non-famous African Americans, and even people from Cole’s own life.
