François Fiedler was a Czechoslovakian-born French artist best known for his gestural abstraction painting. After graduating with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the Académie des Beaux-Arts of Budapest, Fiedler moved to Paris where he was discovered by Joan Miró and introduced to the prestigious art dealer Aimé Maeght. Through this connection, his work gained prominence and he became a close associate of artists such as Giacometti, Tal-Coat, and Chagall. Fiedler’s own work was strongly influenced by Jackson Pollock and the New York School. Today, François Fiedler’s artwork belongs in the permanent collections of many institutions around the world, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, and Budapest’s National Gallery.
