Born in New York City, Robert Kipniss is known for his atmospheric paintings and prints of hauntingly isolated landscapes that evoke deep emotions. Through the use of mezzotint, Kipniss creates hazy, deep scenes that offer a feeling of loneliness. Kipniss was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1980 and as well as the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers a few years later. His work is included in various permanent collections including The Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Library of Congress, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and The Morgan Library and Museum, and more.
