Louis Lozowick was born in Ludvinovka, Ukraine (then Russia) and attended the Kiev Art School before immigrating to the United States. In New York, he attended the National Academy of Design with Leon Kroll and Emil Carlsen before attending Ohio State University. Known best for his geometric lithographs and paintings of urban landscapes and industrial machinery, he was associated with the Constructivist movement. He worked with the Public Works Art Project as a muralist, produced illustrations for the publication New Masses, and wrote the book Modern Russian Art. His work can be found in numerous museums including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Whitney Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and Art Institute of Chicago.
