Swedish artist, Anna Palm de Rosa, was born on Christmas day in 1859 in Stockholm. She was taught privately by her father who was an educator for the Elementary Drawing School, which prepared students for the Royal Swedish Academy of Art. Palm de Rosa later became a student of the artists Edvard Perséus, Per Daniel Holm, and Romain Steppe as her artistic skills progressed since women were still not welcome at the Royal Academy. She became known for her watercolor paintings of marine scenes with sailing ships and Italian life after moving to Naples. Palm de Rosa also was a prominent member of the Svenska konstnärinnor (Swedish female artists) with Eva Bonnier, Hanna Pauli and Mina Carlson-Bredberg.
