David LaChapelle studied photography the North Carolina School of the Arts and the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he ultimately began working for Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine. The subjects for LaChapelle’s photographs are often celebrities, focusing on surreal visuals and verging on the risqué. In addition to his photography, LaChapelle has been sought out for music videos and advertisements for major corporations including Burger King and Tommy Hilfiger. In 2005, LaChapelle’s Rize premiered at the Sundance Film Festival about urban dancing in Los Angeles. His work is collected by many private and public collections around the world.
