Patrick Berry was born in Troy, New York and studied art at Troy Academy, St. John’s College as well as Fordham University where he later became an instructor. He also studied with Hudson River School artists Albert Bierstadt (United States/Germany, 1830 – 1902) and William Hart (United States/United Kingdom, 1823 – 1894). Berry was known for painting landscapes and pastoral scenes.
Condition
- painting has been relined; craquelure with areas of lift across painting surface; scattered inpainting, most notably to tree branches and clouds; scattered accretion; abrasion with paint loss to center of right edge; cracking and accretion to frame finish.
