Ronald Crooks, best known for his Western scene paintings, was born and raised in California. He very briefly attended the Otis Art Institute before being drafted into the United States Army. He returned two and half years later and studied for one year, then transferred to the School of Allied Arts before dropping out entirely to work in the art department of an aircraft company. He began his fine art career after spending fifteen years in advertising, selling his work at art shows across the western United States.
