Paul King was an American artist known for his mastery of technique and diverse subject matter that included portraits, landscapes, rural scenes and illustrations. He was born in 1867 in Buffalo, New York and began his artistic study with his father, a goldsmith. He went on to study with the Buffalo Art Students League, and then the Art Students League of New York where he studied with Henry S. Mowbray. He traveled and studied in Europe, where his work evolved to become slightly more spontaneous and colorful. King’s work was exhibited with many prestigious institutions, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Corcoran Gallery, the Carnegie Internationals and Panama-Pacific International Exposition, among others and his work resides in numerous public collections including Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo; Butler Art Institute, Youngstown, Ohio; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Reading Museum, Pennsylvania; Los Angeles Museum; and the Houston Art Museum.
