Born in Bonn, Germany in 1881, Alexander Oscar Levy moved to Cincinnati, Ohio with his parents at the age of three. From 1894-1900 Levy studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy with Frank Duveneck but later moved to New York to study at the New York School of Fine And Applied Art where he worked with Ossip Linde, William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri. Settling in Buffalo, Levy worked as an illustrator, commercial artist and painter. He continued to create art outside of his work however and in 1920 was invited to exhibit at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Today his work can be found in Denver Art Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Peabody Institute, the Detroit Institute of Art, Toledo Museum of Art, Niagara Falls, St. Mary’s Church, and the Brooklyn Museum as well as in numerous private collections.
