Giovanni Müller was a Swiss artist and illustrator working in the early 20th century in Zurich. Though he was primarily a printmaker, his paintings show a strong influence of Fauvism in their colorful depictions of rural landscapes. In 1952, Müller was a founding member of XYLON, an international society of wood engravers and relief printers.
Condition
- cracks to the paint particularly throughout the sky; impact crack to the upper center with a few chips of paint loss; canvas somewhat loose from stretchers notably to the left edge; unpainted areas of the canvas visible to the left and right edges; holes to the wood of the frame to the lower left and to the upper right corners; abrasions and some finish loss to the frame; metal lamp remnant attached to the upper edge of the frame to the verso.
