Born in Connecticut, Will Hutchins is especially known for his landscape paintings rendered in a post-impressionist style the loose brushstrokes and vibrant colors; however he was multi-talented in many areas as a Congregational minister, a worldwide authority on the horticulture of the American sweet-pea, a theater actor and director. He earned both his B.A. and B.F.A. at Yale University, then attended the Acádemie Julian and studied under Jeal Paul Laurens. Beginning in 1925, he taught at American University and chaired the Art Deparment until his death. His work has been exhibited in multiple institutions including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Boston Art Club, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Washington County Museum in Maryland that held a retrospective of his work in 1962.

- scratches throughout with paint loss particularly to the right and to the edges.
