Jiři Krejčí was a Czech painter, illustrator, writer, and art critic. Krejčí attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he studied under the famous Czech painter Max Švabinský. A proponent of the Czech Social Democratic Party, much of Krejčí’s artwork and writings espoused this political ideology, even after its abolishment under Nazi German occupation and the subsequent absorption of the reformed party into the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia following World War Two. Krejčí famously wrote for the Czech periodicals, People’s Justice, Weekly Variety, and Globoscope, and is perhaps best known for his 1948 treatise Hovory o Obrazech (Discourses on Pictures). Today, Jiři Krejčí’s artwork belongs to numerous public and private collections across Europe.
