Alice Preble Tucker de Haas is especially known for her miniatures, seascapes, and landscapes, often featuring coastal scenes. She studied with several renowned artists such as William Merritt Chase, R. Swain Gifford, and Mauritz de Haas whom she married, and Rhoda Holmes Nicholls. She also attended the Académie Julian in Paris, but spent most of her life in East Gloucester, Massachusetts and New York City. De Haas was a member of several artist associations including the New York Water Color Society, the New York Society of Painters, and the New York Society of Miniature Painters. Her work has been exhibited and collected by numerous institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cocoran Gallery of Art, the Portland Art Museum in Maine, the National Academy of Design, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, among others. She also exhibited two works, Drying the Sails and Just Dishes with the Society of Independent Artists in 1917.
