Jacques Bouyssou was born to an art gallery owner in Honfleur, France, and was drawn to art at an early age. He grew to know many of the Fauvist and Expressionist artists who exhibited in his father’s gallery, including Raoul Dufy, Celso Lagar, and Marcel François Leprin. Bouyssou studied at the Beaux Arts de Troyes and at Academie de la Grand Chaumiere under D’Othon Friez. He became known for his marine paintings as well as coastal landscapes, street scenes, and architectural paintings. He had one-man shows in Paris, London, and New York and in 1973 was name an official painter of the French Navy. His work can be found in many private and public collections including the Musée National de la Marine and Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
