Peter Keil Abstract Portrait Oil Painting, 1983

Item Details

Peter Keil (United States/Germany, born 1942)
Untitled (portait), 1983
Oil painting on canvas with raised elements
Signed to center of right side and to verso

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miró. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
