Surrealist artist Curt Frankenstein emigrated from Germany to the Chicago area when he was twenty-five years old. He studied at the American Academy of Art, the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, and the Art Institute of Chicago where he took classes taught by Max Kahn and Hedi Bak. Inspired by artists Rene Magritte, George Tooker, and Peter Blume, Frankenstain is especially known for combining representational art with Surrealist themes, suggestive of mystery and fantasy. His work has been exhibited by numerous institutions including the Barrington Art Council Gallery, the Wilmette Public Library, and various art fairs throughout the Midwest. His work can also be found in several corporate collections such as West Publishing in Minneapolis/St. Paul, the Illinois State Museum, and the Union League Club in Chicago, among others.

- discoloration and foxing to varnish and painting surface; slight accretion throughout; edge wear and abrasions to frame; separation and uneven meeting of frame corner joins; tears, foxing, and toning to paperboard verso backing and exhibition label.
