John Clinton Spencer was an American realist painter, born in Rhode Island in 1861. He studied under fellow Rhode Island artist and noted still life painter Edward C. Leavitt (1842 – 1904). Spencer became know for his still life and animal paintings, often exhibiting his work at the Providence Art Club.
