Raised in Massachusetts, Charles Partridge Adams moved to Denver at age eighteen. Largely a self-taught artist, he visited the studios of George Inness and Worthington Whittredge during his travels to the East Coast in 1885, then visited the studios of William Keith and Thomas Hill in California. Adams traveled extensively throughout the American West and Southwest, and became especially known for his plein-air paintings of landscapes, including the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone Park, Glacier National Park, and landscapes throughout Colorado and California. His work has been exhibited and collected by numerous institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Denver Art Museum, and the San Diego Museum, among many others.
