Darrell Sweet, born in New Jersey in 1934, was best known as a professional illustrator whose work graced the covers of numerous science fiction and fantasy novels. He studied at Syracuse University and began his illustrative career as the cover artist for Gather Darkness by Fritz Lieber in 1975. A prolific artist, he went on to produce covers for many other well-known series, including The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, Xanth by Piers Anthony, Saga of Recluce by L.E. Modesitt Jr., Runelords by David Farland, and The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever by Stephen R. Donaldson.
