Richter was well known for his landscapes, often done in watercolors or oils. The artist was largely self taught until he began work in a commercial art firm in Chicago. While there, he took classes at the Art Institute and studied under painter E.A. Burbank (American, 1858 -1949). Richter would later move to Colorado and California, producing numerous landscapes in his mature period. The artist exhibited occasionally and taught art often.
