Largely a self-taught artist, Walter Thomas Sacks was known for his paintings of landscapes, cityscapes, village scenes, and harbor scenes. Throughout his life, he worked various jobs as a salesman and manufacturer of explosives, and an advertising manager for the Independent Gas and Oil Company in Rochester, New York, where he retired in 1957. Sacks painted primarily in Western New York; Rockport, Massachusetts, and Quebec Canada. A member of several artist associations, including the Rochester Artist Club, the Fine Arts League of Buffalo, the Salmagundi Club, he also supported the Society for Sanity in Art and the Rationalists, a group of artists based in Buffalo and Rochester. Sacks’ work has been exhibited and collected by multiple institutions, including the Cayuga Museum of History and Art, the Rochester Public Library, the Rochester Institute of Technology, the Auburn Museum of History and Art, and the Rochester Athenaeum, among others.

- some accretions and marks to painting and frame; minor nicks and abrasions to the frame particularly to the corners.
