An original watercolor by Cincinnati born artist Emma Mendenhall (1864-1963), depicting in expressionistic manner a south western street scene. Emma Mendenhall was the niece of Mrs. Larz Anderson, an art patron and philanthropist, who helped to establish Emma in Cincinnati’s art community. She studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy with Frank Duveneck, then in Paris, New York and Maine. Mendenhall also traveled widely, she painted scenes from Mexico, France, Spain, Italy and on the East Coast, was at Boothbay Harbor and Ogunquit, Maine. She exhibited at the Paris Salon, the Panama Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco, the Art Institute of Chicago and in watercolor exhibits in Boston, New York and Baltimore. This watercolor is signed by the artist in the lower left corner and is presented in a beige mat with a neutral frame.
