Born in Massachusetts, Philip Brown Parsons attended the Boston School of Painting and the Child-Walker School of Art, and studied with William Frederick Foster and Howard Smith. Known for his landscapes and sporting art, he worked as an illustrator, producing many works for 4-H Horizons, National Sportmans, Hunting and Fishing, Yankee, and Outdoors, among other publications. He also illustrated the last cover for Youth’s Companion and the 1972 cover of the L.L. Bean catalog. Some of his other work includes jigsaw puzzle pictures, textbook illustrations for Houghlin-Mifflin and Little, and calendar illustrations for Remington Guns. Parsons served as a former President of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society in Massachusetts, and was a member of the Boston Water Color Society, the Guild of Boston Artists, and the Concord Art Association, among other artist groups. He had many solo shows, including two at the Doll & Richards Gallery in Boston, and his work is represented in many private and public collections.
