Cesare Mario Cristini was an Italian artist best known for his operatic set design. As a young man, Cristini attended the Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan. He went on to work as a set and costume designer for prestigious opera companies around the world, such as the San Carlo Opera Company, Rome Opera, and Covent Garden in London, earning numerous awards. In 1959, Cristini received a Fullbright Scholarship to study and teach at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he worked as a professor and resident scenic designer until his death in 1970.
