Dong Kingman was one of America’s leading 20th-century watercolor artists. Born in California to Chinese immigrant parents, he returned to Hong Kong at age five, he studied watercolor and calligraphy at the Chan Sun Wen School and apprenticed under artist Szeto Wai. He returned to California in 1929 to finish his education at the Fox Morgan Art School. After a solo exhibition in 1936 at the San Francisco Art Association, he gained national recognition and went on to work for the WPA, as an army map artist in WWII, and an art instructor at Columbia University and Hunter College. Kingman was also a prolific illustrator for the film industry in Hollywood and a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department. His work is held in collections worldwide, with over 50 institutions listed as holding his artworks.

- toning and foxing to mat boards; slight warp to print paper; signature and edition number on print have faded significantly, visible under UV light; scratches and edge wear to frame.
