George Debereiner studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, in addition to institutions in Holland and Germany. He was a member of the Society of the Valley of the Moon and the Cincinnati Art Academy, where he was likely a student of Frank Duveneck. Although he painted a variety of subjects, he was especially known for his Native American portraiture. Locally, Debereiner’s work has been exhibited by the Cincinnati Art Museum and Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Bank, which houses one of his murals.
