A bust portrait of Danish Lieutenant Colonel Nicolaus Gustav Hermann von Kauffmann (1792 – 1850), created mid 19th century. The work is presented in a textural gold-tone composite wood frame.

Condition

- billow and stretch marks to canvas from lost tension; heavy overpainting present, with surface relief to image in areas of heavy work; yellowed varnish throughout; streaked in areas where painting was cleaned and re-varnished; patch repair to canvas near center; puncture to lower right; wear and accretion to frame; frame has unfinished sides, with splits and holes to sides from original inset within a larger frame.
