Leland S. McClelland was a highly respected and influential central Ohio artist most well known for his work in watercolor and as a cartoonist. He studied at the Ohio State University and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, and worked as a professor at the Columbus College of Art and Design. Over his prolific career, McClelland founded the Central Ohio Watercolor Society and the Bexley Area Art Guild, presided as Director of Fine Arts at the Ohio State Fair, and served as president of both the Columbus Art Council and the Arts Council of Columbus. His watercolor paintings have been exhibited at the Columbus Museum of Art and the Schumacher Gallery at Capital University, and his original cartoons belong to collections at the Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library and the Columbus College of Art and Design.
