Gordon Ross was best known for his prolific sporting and book illustrations. He immigrated from Scotland to San Francisco at an early age. He acquired his formal artistic training at Mark Hopkins Art Institute. Subsequently, he worked as a commercial illustrator for various prestigious publications throughout the country, including the San Francisco Chronicle, Heritage Press in New York, The Limited Editions Club, The Derrydale Press, Surtees’s Jorrocks Jaunts, the Jolities, and many others.
