Per the consignor, this rough-hewn table originated in the historic Forest Retreat Tavern located on U.S. 68 in Nicolas County, Kentucky. Built in 1806, the tavern was originally the most lavish and hospitable pre-Civil War tavern located on one of the first roads built in the area. It was a popular stop midway between Maysville, Kentucky and Lexington, Kentucky and also served as as an out-post for the Pony Express.
