Leslie Cope was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England in 1913 and came to the United States during 1931 where he settled in ville, Ohio. Being a prolific artist Cope committed his work to depicting virtues of rural life and landscapes in England and the United States. Popular subjects in his work are workhorses, country scenes, carnival scenes, canal studies, and rural landscapes. His work is housed in permanent collections along the east coast such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Library of Congress, and the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh.
