Artist and cattle rancher Theodore Waddell is known for implementing elements of abstract art in his work, often featuring rural motifs such as cattle, horses, and grazing animals. His work tends to feature heavily textured surfaces, often rendered with layers of translucent wax medium and loose forms to suggest transitory concepts and the procession of time. Raised in Montana, Waddell studied in New York and was influenced by Abstract Expressionists such as Franz Kline, Jackson Pollack, Willem deKooning, and Hans Hoffman. His work has been exhibited and collected by numerous institutions including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Denver Museum of Art. A number of celebrities have also collected his work, such as Robert Redford and Ringo Starr, among others.
