Marsh began his formal studies in art at Yale University and the Art Students League, working as an illustrator for various New York publications, and after studying abroad in Paris in the ‘20s, made a serious turn to fine painting. He was best known for his depictions of the homeless, the intoxicated, and the debaucherous, as his affinity for people was the driving inspiration of his life’s work.
