William Paterson Ewen is best known for his monumental-sized acrylic paintings and collages on gouged plywood. He was prolific in his body of work, styles, and wide array of media and supports used. His most famous subjects were his ‘phenomenascapes’, but also enjoyed creating landscapes, people, color studies, and textured works, while his artistic style was constantly evolving through Abstract Expressionism, Hard Edge Abstraction, and Automatism, before maturing stylistically in his own niche of Fauvism.
