An Acoma polychrome earthenware pot, attributed to Marie Z. Chino (Acoma Pueblo, 1907 – 1982). Marie Z. Chino is considered a founding matriarch of the famous geometric Acoma pottery style, showcasing her designs as early as the 1920s and passing her craft to her daughter Evelyn Chino and her grandson Terrance M. Chino. The Chino family is featured in several books and studies on pottery of the American Southwest for their incorporation of ancient techniques to the modern era. The pot features white, black, and red slip in arranged geometric patterns. The pot is signed by hand to the underside, “M. Chino, Acoma” with a bear claw print in black slip.
