Chinese Five-Clawed Imperial Dragon Robe with Collar in Frame, Qing Dynasty

A Chinese hand-embroidered silk on silk Imperial dragon robe dating to the period of the Qing Dynasty (1644 to 1912). This robe has hand-embroidery with couching, featuring auspicious five-clawed Chinese Imperial dragons symbolizing the Emperor with fire symbols on the front of the robe, the collar and the sleeves with fire symbols and the flaming pearl of wisdom symbol surrounded by branching flames. The collar has a single braided knot button and loop closure. The Imperial dragons are intricately detailed with dyed silk threading in shades of blue and gray with red, black and gold metallic embroidery with peonies and stylized clouds in shades of blue and gray, with lishui wave symbols in gold metallic threading outlined in black. The panels on the sides of the robe are in dyed blue silk with gold metallic embroidered Chinese characters and scrolls. The robe is professionally framed and housed under plexiglass, is only visible to the front, and appears to be resting on red raw silk fabric. The frame is in a shade of rosewood trimmed with gold paint, and paper to back with an aluminum metal bar secured with screws onto a wooden bar for hanging.
