Born in what was the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1881, Luigi Kasimir was an etcher, painter, and print-maker whose work centered upon historical and natural landmarks. After studying at the Vienna Academy of Art under the German etcher William Unger, Kasimir became one of the first artists to develop the technique of multiple plate color etching. Internationally renowned and respected, Kasimir traveled all over Europe and America to produce his landscapes and cityscapes, and today his artwork belongs in the permanent collections of many prestigious institutions around the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
