An accomplished and prominent artist during the 20th century, Friedlaender is best known for his abstract and non-objective aquatints and etchings. He was born in modern-day Prussian Silesia in 1912. He attended Academy of Arts in Breslau and began exhibiting within a few years of graduating. During 1937, Friedlaender immigrated to Paris as a Nazi regime political refugee. Recipient of many art and teaching awards, he has exhibited in multiple countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Netherlands and the United States.
