Lance Letscher is known for his mixed media collages that often include fragments of letters, books, and appropriated advertising imagery, among other materials. In 2009, a monograph of his work, Lance Letscher: Collage was published by the University of Texas Austin, which includes an introduction by art critic Charles Dee Mitchell and an essay by art historian and curator Brooke Anderson. Before the 1990s, he was creating conceptual sculpture, then turned to his collages using materials he found in second-hand stores and junk dealers. In 2009, a monograph of his work, Lance Letscher: Collage was published by the University of Texas Austin, which includes an introduction by art critic Charles Dee Mitchell and an essay by art historian and curator Brooke Anderson. In addition, a documentary of the artist titled The Secret Life of Lance Letscher was presented in 2017 at the SXSW Film Festival. Letscher’s work has been exhibited and collected by numerous institutions including the Tyler Museum of Art, the Austin Museum of Art, Eight Modern (Santa Fe), and the Grover/Thurston Gallery (Seattle), among many others.
